Another Day to Die...

The last Bond theme was an interesting entity. When I heard that Chris Connell was going to be doing it, I was a little bit excited. Mainly because it was someone I had heard off who wasn't considered a pop act and therefore should produce something enjoyable. And I was right. The theme suited Casino Royal perfectly. It was rugged, energetic and different. Exactly like the film. It completed the package as a whole. And then today I found out who had been signed up to do the theme for the, rather oddly named, Quantum of Solace.

Now, I wasn't a White Stripes fan. I thought they had the odd catchy song but overall their music was drastically brought down by Meg White's inability to drum. Oh. And the whole incest thing. Just made the whole thing a little too wierd. Never did work that out. But anyway, the fact that Jack White was going to be writing the song, even be it without his sister/wife/pet, didn't fill me with hope. The original rumour was that Amy Winehouse was most likely to be asked, and despite not being a huge fan, I thought that had potential. Her music is just dark and edgy enough to warrant being the theme for the new film. Even if she has completely lost it...

Now, to make an odd choice even stranger, they've not only got Jack White on board, but Alicia Keys as well! What a strange pairing... But this is where I think it could work. I couldn't imagine White's annoyingly screechy vocals punctuating the opening of a Bond film. But keep his music, remove the vocals and replace them with those of Keys and we could be on to a winner. Or a big messy pile of guitars and hairspray. (I presume Alicia Keys uses hairspray. She seems like the type.) It does make me wonder if the two have actually met yet, or are the producers literally going to throw them into a room and demand that they make beautiful music together. Either way, this really could be quite interesting...

I wasn't a fan of Cornell's stuff post-Soundgarden, seemed a bit too adult-contemporary

The Spongbob Movie? Ok. Maybe. There's a few more reviews in the pipeline, but I'll stick it on the list...
