Oh yes, there will be blood...

Just a quick one today. I watched some of Hostel 2 yesterday. I hadn't watched Hostel but I got to grips with the plot pretty quickly. And to be completely honest, I don't get it. The directing was good, the script reasonable and the acting strong. But I just don't get the appeal of watching people get tortured to death as entertainment. It wasn't like the Saw series, where at least there's a vague plot and an interesting villian. Also, the people captured by Jigsaw are generally not very nice and on-top of that, they're given a chance to escape. In Hostel (well, number 2 at least, I can't talk about the first one) the girls are actually reasonable people who I could actually relate to. And I guess that's where the film gets you. It wouldn't have affected me if they were muggers or rapists. I would have just thought 'yeah, serves you right.' But not with this. I actually stopped watching for the main reason that this was torture for tortures sake. And I've gotta say, that's just not fun.
